The Cherry on Top

I have mentioned this already, but after the ceremony is over (and some of the photos are finished), the veil is coming off and my fun headpiece is coming on!

You would be amazed at what stores actually charge for these things. I wanted something that I described as a "feathery flower." Something that made a statement without being too large. But every one that I had my eye on cost well over $100, $200 and sometimes $300. That is complete insanity in my book.

Since making the decision to get something like this, I have been searching everywhere. And Etsy has once again proven to be my mecca. There were so many gorgeous headpieces - all for a fraction of what the local bridal shops were trying to sell their stuff for. After several weeks of searching, I found one that I love!

I noticed that several of the headpieces I liked were all made by Jennypickle Designs, on Etsy. Upon looking at her shop, I found "the one!" Of course, it sold before I made a final decision on it. I messaged her and luckily, she was able to make a replica specially for me. AND she completed it today!!

Love it! And it is special knowing it was made specifically with me in mind! Hopefully it will be here shortly so I can try it on!

I love Etsy!

I have long heard about this mecca (Etsy) on the Internet that allows people to make goods and sell them, like an Ebay for creative people (and we all know how I love Ebay!). When I finally made time to check it out, I was bummed I hadn't gotten into it sooner!

My first order of business was to look for a wedding day necklace. In lieu of the traditional pearl and diamond look, I am seriously considering something a little more funky. I think this could look really cool, especially since my dress is relatively simple. I am thinking something green...here are a few examples of what I like at this point:


What do you think of these? If I opt for a necklace like one of the above, I will probably use simple pearl stud earrings (or something similar).

As for my hair, I am planning on a traditional veil for the ceremony/some photos. As soon as that is over, I will be losing the veil for something a little less rigid and much more fun. I really like the idea of a feathery flower clip, like some of the images below. But I have also come across a really cool rhinestone headband that may look neat... Take a look:

Opinions? I am definitely going to keep looking to see what else I can find on Etsy!

I have also located some really neat fabric (in various shades of orange and green) on Etsy that would make for great tablescapes at the reception. Lots of inspiration!

And last, but certainly not least, I have been looking through Etsy for bridesmaid gift inspiration. I will not show my ideas on here simply because I don't want to let a secret out! But I can say that I may have found the best gift ever!! I am ordering a sample today or tomorrow so I can see it in person before making a final decision. I will keep you posted!

Inspiration for my wedding "look"

When I contemplate my wedding "look," I am greatly inspired by the glamour of old Hollywood (see above).

This thought never occurred to me until I found my dress. Well, "the dress" is not officially mine yet, but I think I found it. Unfortunately, I cannot share it on here since I do not want Jacob to see it. BUT, I can tell you that its lines, design and look all scream old Hollywood.

That in mind, the decisions I make on my shoes, accessories (including jewelry, veil, headpiece) and hair/makeup will be inspired by the looks of old Hollywood.

I am definitely looking forward to pulling this idea together with the other aspects I have in mind to make our day extra special and very unique! I mean really, who else's wedding can say it has roots in old Hollywood, Irish tradition, and autumn/fall themes? It may sound random now, but it will all tie together on September 18, 2010.
