Busy bees

Since I last updated, we have made a significant dent on the wedding planning front. I am proud to say that we have:
  • Printed our invitations and started assembly (crossing my fingers to get these out within the next week);
  • Ordered and received my veil (I highly recommend Occansey Designs...you get to design every element of your veil; they are QUICK; and they are inexpensive).
  • Ordered (and received) more paper for our programs and RSVP cards;
  • Spent a Saturday afternoon at IKEA gathering more supplies for our centerpieces (thanks Stephanie!!!); and
  • Found and bought earrings for the big day (still trying to pick out a bracelet!).
Other than those items, I really do not have much more to update on. Strike that, reverse it. We did get an unexpected (and unfortunate) call that Murray's (our rehearsal dinner site) is closing. Bad news bears! If we can get the deposit back, Jacob's parents are looking into other locales around town and if not, we will be having the rehearsal dinner at Merrick Inn (also owned by the people who own Murray's). It is what it is.

To end on a brighter note, I think I might have decided on a photo we are going to display at the rehearsal dinner (and have our fabulous wedding party sign the mat):

Happy Thursday!

The Cherry on Top

I have mentioned this already, but after the ceremony is over (and some of the photos are finished), the veil is coming off and my fun headpiece is coming on!

You would be amazed at what stores actually charge for these things. I wanted something that I described as a "feathery flower." Something that made a statement without being too large. But every one that I had my eye on cost well over $100, $200 and sometimes $300. That is complete insanity in my book.

Since making the decision to get something like this, I have been searching everywhere. And Etsy has once again proven to be my mecca. There were so many gorgeous headpieces - all for a fraction of what the local bridal shops were trying to sell their stuff for. After several weeks of searching, I found one that I love!

I noticed that several of the headpieces I liked were all made by Jennypickle Designs, on Etsy. Upon looking at her shop, I found "the one!" Of course, it sold before I made a final decision on it. I messaged her and luckily, she was able to make a replica specially for me. AND she completed it today!!

Here are some of her pictures she sent me earlier:

Love it! And it is special knowing it was made specifically with me in mind! Hopefully it will be here shortly so I can try it on!
Happy Friday.

Say YES to the Dress!

I ordered my wedding gown yesterday! The wedding, though nine months out, is starting to feel so official.

Sadly, I will not be able to put a picture of the dress on here because I do not want Jacob to see it prior to our wedding day. However, I can tell you to be prepared to be amazed!

With my mum's fabulous connections with Ruth's Bridal here in Lexington, I ended up scoring the dress of my dreams for $100 less than the same dress at the shop in Cincy AND I was given an extra discount on top of that!! In all, I easily saved $175. That rocks! Oh and the best thing of all, the dress may not need any alterations once it makes it in (mid-May). Seriously good news!

When placing my order, I went ahead and added the charge to have the dress preserved after the wedding. This is a very interesting concept to me...you pay $160 or so to have your dress cleaned, pressed and put into a box that you will ultimately store in your attic. Not knowing what else I would do with the dress, this seemed like a good plan to me.

I think my next stop with the wedding attire will include shoes, the undergarments, the veil and headpiece. I have ideas swirling in my head for each of these. Most importantly, if anyone sees cute kitten heel shoes, preferably in green, please let me know!

Inspiration for my wedding "look"

When I contemplate my wedding "look," I am greatly inspired by the glamour of old Hollywood (see above).

This thought never occurred to me until I found my dress. Well, "the dress" is not officially mine yet, but I think I found it. Unfortunately, I cannot share it on here since I do not want Jacob to see it. BUT, I can tell you that its lines, design and look all scream old Hollywood.

That in mind, the decisions I make on my shoes, accessories (including jewelry, veil, headpiece) and hair/makeup will be inspired by the looks of old Hollywood.

I am definitely looking forward to pulling this idea together with the other aspects I have in mind to make our day extra special and very unique! I mean really, who else's wedding can say it has roots in old Hollywood, Irish tradition, and autumn/fall themes? It may sound random now, but it will all tie together on September 18, 2010.
